Plants for shade

Nearly every garden has a shady corner or a dark patch that gets little or no sun. Even if your garden is mostly shady, you still can fill it with plenty of plants!

What is full shade vs partial shade?

Many plants will thrive in a shady area but before planting, pay attention to how much shade you have. Full shade means three hours or less of direct sun, while partial shade equals three to six hours.

How to grow plants in the shade

Avoid direct sun – be careful not to expose shade plants to direct sunlight as this can be damaging. Check your soil before watering; if it’s still damp, wait an extra day or two before the next water. And use a fertiliser – try a high quality all-purpose slow release fertiliser or a soluble or liquid all-purpose fertiliser.
